Type: Internal SSD
Form factor: M.2 2242 (22 × 42 mm) • M key (most common in NVMe)
Interface
-
Generally NVMe (PCIe x4) on "PRO/performance" models.
-
Note: there are also M.2 2242 SATA drives (same size, incompatible with an NVMe-only slot).
Key points
-
Compact 2242 form factor: designed for compact PCs / some laptops / mini-PCs / handheld type machines that do not accept 2280.
-
On high-capacity 2242 SSDs (4 TB), compatibility may depend on:
-
single-sided / double-sided (some devices only accept single-sided SSDs),
-
thickness and thermal constraints (limited cooling in small chassis).
-
-
Common features: TRIM, S.M.A.R.T., NVMe management, dynamic cache (depending on model).
-
Often DRAM-less with HMB (depending on the reference).
Compatibility
-
Required slot: M.2 2242 compatible slot (42 mm screw point present).
-
Not compatible with M.2 2280 only slots if the 2242 fixation is not present.
-
Not compatible with M.2 SATA slots if the SSD is NVMe (and vice versa).
